FAQ
Why is the iPhone and iPad app a separate purchase from the Mac app?
The iPhone and iPad app is essentially a different product from the Mac app. More importantly, they use different payment systems.
Whereas the iPhone and iPad app is distributed through the App Store with payments handled by Apple, the Mac app is distributed through Gumroad, which processes payments independently. Because of this, sharing purchases between the two platforms isn’t practical.
How can I download Festivitas for Mac again if I previously purchased it?
Your receipt email from Gumroad includes a link to download the app again.
If you no longer have the email, you can download the app from your Gumroad library at gumroad.com. If you never created a Gumroad account, create one with the email you used to purchase Festivitas, log in, and the app will appear in your library.
Why is the Mac app distributed through Gumroad instead of the App Store?
Festivitas for Mac needs accessibility permissions to display festive lights on the Dock and menu bar. Although this functionality is safe and publicly supported by Apple, apps using accessibility APIs can’t be distributed through the Mac App Store. Gumroad allows the app to be distributed independently.
Why does the Mac app require accessibility permission?
When you first launch Festivitas, it requests access to accessibility features. This permission allows the app to locate your Dock and decorate it with festive lights.
You can enable or disable this permission anytime in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility. See the screenshot below for guidance.
Why is the iPhone and iPad app free while the Mac app is paid upfront?
Since the iPhone and iPad app is distributed through the App Store, offering in-app purchases is straightforward. This allows users to download the app for free and try it out before unlocking all features with an in-app purchase.
Because the Mac app is distributed through Gumroad, implementing in-app purchases isn’t practical, so it’s offered as a paid-upfront app instead.
Which features in the iPhone and iPad app require purchasing the full version?
Most functionality is available for free, but without unlocking the full version, you can only create a single widget.
Unlocking the full version lets you create an unlimited number of widgets, make transparent widgets on iPhone, and choose an alternate app icon.
